Timanfaya – Fire Mountains

A must-see attraction in the Canary Islands is Timanfaya National Park, situated on the island and in the autonomous community of Lanzarote. In 2020, it became the second most visited national park in the Canary Islands, behind Teide, and the fourth most visited in Spain.
Throughout Timanfaya, ā€˜geothermal anomalies’ occur – a term coined by volcanologists. This phenomenon generates unusual surface temperatures caused by heat rising from the subsoil.
In addition, a 14-kilometre trail for visitors, nicknamed ā€œThe Volcano Trailā€, has been created within the national park.
One of the most popular activities in Lanzarote is a camel ride across the volcano – a scene that has already featured prominently on postcards and is taking social media by storm.
In that case, visitors can enjoy the views whilst creating unique and unforgettable memories.
Read on to find out more about Timanfaya – Mountains of Fire, the history of the volcano, how to visit, the cost of the visit, activities included in the visit, opening times and other details.

What are the Fire Mountains?

When we want to explore the Mountains of Fire, we are looking for a ā€˜stroll on the Moon’ without having to leave Earth.
These mountains were formed after Lanzarote was ravaged by devastating volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736. This is how Timanfaya National Park and the beautiful Mountains of Fire came into being.

How to visit

To reach the destination, visitors simply need to search for the location online (Timanfaya National Park) and follow the directions provided by their sat-nav.
Another option is to search for ā€˜Islote de Hilario’ on Google Maps. Before reaching the islet – which is where the car park is located – visitors will come across the ticket office where they can purchase their ticket.
